Sekhmet Lioness Mask by b3designsllc Sekhmet Lioness Mask by b3designsllc
So I decided I couldn't wait until tomorrow morning to take a picture (cell phone pic isn't too bad) ;)

This is a mask of Sekhmet, Egyptian goddess of war, healing and daughter of the Sun God, Ra. She was depicted as a woman with the head of a lioness and thought to be a protector of the pharaoh.

She is made from 8oz tooling leather and painted with acrylics.

She looks gorgeous. I used to follow the Egyptian Pantheon and Sekhmet was the goddess I followed the most closely.

Thanks, my application of the cobra is a lot better with this mask and the lines are what I really wanted to stand out as her main feature :)

Hmmm and I got an ad for Aldi's food market this time lol

Wow How did you get that shape. I can see how one would get the human face shape but how did you get this one and I also llove the paint scheme here very intricate yet simple and beautifull

Thank you! It all comes down to the pattern and trial and error really; making sure that the eyes are evenly spaced and large enough and also having the muzzle at the right size.
Leather is really good at holding its shape when treated correctly, so if you have a good pattern, you can get any shape out of it at the end.

your masks are always so perfect, as much for the color as for the leather work.
By the way what kind of dye do you use?

Thank you! The only time I use dye is when I have a really dark color like red, blues or blacks. I use Fiebings dye from Tandy and then paint over it with Liquitex Soft Body Paints.

I saw this thumbnail on my watch and just knew it had to be yours before I even click it! You just have style, my friend. And this is amazing! I think you keep topping yourself with each mask! The color scheme on this one fits perfectly with the Egyptian theme. It's been great watching your pantheon of varying gods come to life. They look like a great challenge and always offer up some interesting visual motifs!

I'm always impressed by the fact most of these masks have been one single piece of leather (particularly the Artemis one, wow!) Might I ask the secret behind attaching the snake here? Is it slotted in a little slit there? The 3D effect of the cobra crown is just neaaat!

Thank you thank you!!

I love all the different characters from all kinds of myths and legends; it's like an endless plethora of inspiration!

You guessed correctly on the snake. Before, I just kinda glued him on the front, but this time I wanted to have a more concealed look. The end of the snake was skived down and I made a slot to feed the end through and just glued it down on the other side.
