Greek Goddess Demeter Leather Gecko Mask

This is a mask of the Greek Goddess of The Harvest, Demeter. Represented here as one of her sacred animals, the Gecko or Serpent, adorned with a golden crown of wheat and embellished with an emerald green gem.

The mask is made from 8oz vegetable tanned leather. Hand cut, shaped, painted with acrylics like all my other masks. This mask is a little special in the fact that I was able to use a new medium called interference paint which I learned about from and This special medium comes in various colors and reflects the color that it comes in. When mixed with other mediums, textures and colors, you can really get some cool effects. In this case, I tooled in some bumpy reptile-like texture onto the leather, laid down a green base, did some yellow dry brushing and then added some blue interference. The result is a nice turquoise shimmer!
